Dolphin therapy can help dozens of seriously ill children in Latvia to live with their disease and to improve their health. It is a specific therapy which involves trained dolphins. A touch by a dolphin activates body as a system and has both physical and psychological effect. Dolphin therapy is an efficient tool supplementing traditional therapy. Dolphin therapy for children is supervised by a specially trained therapist, and, of course, dolphins and a dolphin trainer are part of it. Dolphin therapy usually lasts 5-10 sessions, 25-30 minutes each.
The therapy improves physical condition and emotional status, as well as the ability to focus which allows children to do what they were not able to in regard to both physical development and psycho-emotional aspect. After dolphin therapy, mothers whose children are unable to speak often hear the long expected and the most beautiful word in the world – Mummy. Dolphin therapy is applied to autism, cerebral palsy and numerous neurological disorders. Dolphin therapy can be recommended to children with specific deceases by an attending physician.
In the 70ths, USA scientists discovered that people after having been in contact with dolphins feel emotionally stable and calm. Later conducted experiments confirmed the beneficial effect dolphins leave on the psyche of ill children. Dolphin therapy is practised in more than 100 medical centres and dolphinariums in USA, Israel, Egypt, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, the Ukraine, the Bahamas and other countries. Thanks to EU funding, the dolphinarium centre in Klaipeda, Lithuania, was opened in 2015.
Ziedot.lv will cover dolphin therapy costs in Lithuania and Belarus for a number of children. One dolphin therapy session costs EUR 800-1.750. The donated amount of EUR 35.000 can help at least 20 seriosly ill children from all across Latvia.
