The goal of the Vītols Fund is to provide scholarships for capable, dedicated young people from low-income families for studies in the universities of Latvia. The situation in the Latvian rural schools helped the founders of the foundation define the goal to which the foundation targets its activities – to grant scholarships to those secondary school graduates from rural areas, whose family material circumstances prevent them from continuing the studies in a university. Fund scholarships are granted to those who have good grades in their reports (average marks of 7 or higher), have succeeded in academic contests and who come from low-income families.
Every year, scholarships are requested by an average of 350 young people from across Latvia; 250 of them fully correspond to the requirements of Vītols Fund. 543 scholarships have already been created by the Vītols Fund. They are funded by both companies and individuals. One scholarship in the amount of LVL 1 300 is paid from September to June and the student is supported for several years of studies.
A special foundation is Friends Scholarship, which is formed by people who cannot afford to provide full scholarships. Seven young people are currently studying with the Friends Scholarship, including four who are studying with the support of Ziedot.lv contributors.
Currently, the Friends Scholarship would help Jolanta:
Jolanta’s grades in secondary school were excellent; her attitude toward studies is serious. Jolanta has participated in district contests and competitions in different school subjects. She already chose her future profession long ago and has been especially preparing for it throughout secondary school. She has therefore successfully entered the Rehabilitation Faculty of Riga Stradins University.
Jolanta is the youngest child of a three-children family. Several years ago, Jolanta’s mother died after a long period of illness. Jolanta’s father is a farmer who works with grain cultivation, her oldest brother works at their father’s farm and her second brother died in childhood.
While studying at school, Jolanta also went to a music school and studied for two years at the Academy of Talents. She has always taken active part in sports and amateur art events.
To study and form her life, Jolanta really needs the Friends Scholarship!
