Many families in Latvia are carrying a heavy burden – destiny has sent them a seriously ill child or a child with an incurable disease.
It is emotionally and physically difficult. Emotionally, it is painfully to accept that your child will never be well, will never be able to make his or her dream about a full-blooded life true. Physically, it is tough because children suffering from such a disease cannot be left on their own even when they are 10-15 years old. They need a full attention and care 24 x 7.
The families need our support to keep up strength and love for their ill children. Quite often relatives and friends provide it, but it is not always enough. Special knowledge and skills, as well as practical help needed every day. It is achievable by providing an assistant, a professional care worker who would take care of an ill child while parents are away. Mum can use this time for her needs – to see a doctor, a psychologist, to go out with a healthy child, or to do whatever is impossible with a disabled child around.
A professional assistant provides up to 32 hours of support monthly that cost EUR 207, including taxes. Providing care for an ill child is expensive and many families cannot afford it.
We invite people to help families with ill children so that they could access help of a professional assistant.
Last year, on December 16-22, the second year in a row, the so-called Glass Studio of the radio station Pieci.lv was set up at the Station Square where three DJs stayed in and worked 24 hours.
During the charity marathon “Give five!”, we invited to donate for families with gravely ill children for parents to afford assistants of professional care workers.
By donating EUR 5, anyone could select a song on www.pieci.lv. DJs played the song during the marathon on Latvia’s Radio 5 – Pieci.lv.
You can donate by visiting website Pieci.lv or by calling to a donation line 90067005.
The action takes place in cooperation with the charity portal Ziedot.lv, Latvian Radio, the holding company “Latvian Railways”, the shopping centre “Origo”, Latvian Television and the state joint-stock company “Latvia State Radio and Television Centre”.
The Project is placed online on: 02.12.2015
