Children in the Ukraine are suffering from the war followed the annexation of Crimea, and the horror they have seen will stay in their memory for the rest of their lives. It will take long to cure scars left by the war. By contributing a little something, we can try and become a Mum to the Ukrainian children. As a beautiful Ukrainian folk song about the embroidered scarf which brings happiness say, we can provide part of it – love, sympathy and support.
Latvia’s Rotary Clubs which target, among others, is a clearly defined as promoting understanding between nations and consolidating the world by peace, invited people to a charity action unique to Europe and the Baltics, and to the concert „Children of War” which took place on July, 6, 2015 at the Dzintari Concert Hall. This was our chance to bring the children of war from the Ukraine to Latvia and help them recover in a peaceful atmosphere from the disastrous trauma which they will have to fight for the rest of their lives.
Inara Mūrniece, the Speaker of Saeima (the Parliament) and the patroness of the concert „Children of War”, invited representatives of the Ukrainian government, as well as Heads of the Parliaments from Lithuania and Estonia. The concert was broadcast live on the Ukrainian and Latvian public TV. All the income from the concert, as well as charitable contributions will be used for rehabilitation of the Ukrainian children who suffered from the war. A number of medical institutions and sanatoriums have already expressed their support and cooperation. Rehabilitation course in Latvia for a child from the Ukraine will cost EUR 600-700.
We live nearby. Though the damage of the Ukrainian war does not influence us directly, it is our, being neighbours and Europeans, obligation to do our best to help Ukrainians overcome the consequences of the war. And, first of all, to help orphaned children from the Ukraine.
It is not in our power to stop Russia’s aggression, but it is in our power to help distressed people, because we, each and all, feel the shadow of the war, and the Ukraine is fighting also for our freedom.
Let us help the children of the war from the Ukraine.
