There are many reasons why animals get into the “OTRA MAJA (Second home)” Animal Shelter. Some of them have been thrown out of their home by irresponsible owners, others become strays after owners’ death, some just got lost and can’t find a way home.
The main rule and principle of the “OTRA MAJA” Animal Shelter is not to euthanize animals, so animals stay in shelter as long as they need to find a new owner. Shelter’s workers do their best to make animals feel as good and comfortable as it is possible. Every new animal is being chipped, sterilized, vaccinated and dewormed.
Maintance of shelter “OTRA MAJA” , including feeding, treating and finding new home for animals, is mainly possible because of the support of tenderhearted people! The shelter does everything it can to find new home for every animal but, every year the number of incoming animals is approximately equal to number of animals that have found their new family.
There are 30 dogs and 20 cats daily kept in shelter “OTRA MAJA”. The average costs of feeding one dog is EUR 4.50 per day and EUR 2.20 for one cat per day.
All donations are used to feed animals, take care of them and cover vet service costs.
The staff of “OTRA MAJA” Animal Shelter’s is always happy to welcome guests. If you want to bring some treats to the shelter, animals will alwaysappriciate pet food, new or second-hand collars and leashes, firewood and briquettes for heating, as well as blankets, bedspreads and towels.

Shelter’s annual necessary costs:
- animal feeding - EUR 12502.00;
- animal keeping (including bowls, care products, equipment, construction materials for aviary repairing works etc.) - EUR 4232.06;
- heating, utility bills - EUR 800.66;
- veterinary services - EUR 8480.08;
- reward for the staff for daily work in the shelter - EUR 16007.61;
- administrative costs - EUR 1152.05;
