The donation initiative “donate your deposit” in the taromates located in the trading venues is taking place for a half year within the period from 08.12.2022.2 to 01.06.2023, the population diverted the deposit fee for 1 552 108 deposit packages or 155 210.8 euro. Of these 63,851 euro was donated to Ukrainian refugee children, 61 304 euro for animal shelters and 30, 054 euro for the support of seniors. The donated funds in the form of practical assistance continue to reach the beneficiaries by providing various daily goods, including food, clothing, medicines and school supplies, as well as covering various acute services.
Data on donation activity indicate that the population of Riga in taromates has diverted 38 percent of the total amount of donations, or more than 58 thousand euros, by donating the largest sum in support of shelter paws and Ukrainian refugee children. Also, the people of the Vidzeme region who have donated more than 32 thousand euros in difficulties should also be highlighted. Among the most active donors, as usual, Pierīga and Kurzeme also rank, deviating 16% and 13 percent of the total amount donated to charitable purposes.
Donor support has enabled animal protection associations to provide support to 838 homeless animals without their own family. Donations have been provided with shelter work during a four ¬ month period, when animals are taken up in care and helping them to find new houses and reliable owners.
For the donated funds, support is also provided to 29 seniors, helping to cover the fuel (wood and briquettes) and food expenditures, and in some cases assistance is also provided for the transfer of the household to the pansionate. One of the areas where seniors require the greatest financial resources is medical treatment. Thanks to the responsiveness of the donators, the necessary medicines and glasses purchased for the Latvian seniors.
The highest support is for Ukrainian refugee children who have been temporarily sheltered from war in Latvia is still being provided by providing computers for the organization of remote learning. “To preserve their identity, language and culture. Ukrainian children learn both languages at the Ukrainian school remotely and attend the presence of Latvian schools. It has a very high load for children, but they are motivated to learn Latvian to better integrate in the school in Latvia, while not losing their links with their homes in Ukraine.
